Research

Support long-term, large-scale research projects that investigate how students' understanding of mathematical concepts develops over time, from early childhood through secondary education. These studies can provide invaluable insights into how foundational mathematical knowledge and skills influence future academic success, career readiness, and lifelong problem-solving abilities. By identifying critical milestones in students' cognitive and mathematical development, such research can inform the design of more effective curricula and instructional strategies.

Additionally, prioritize and promote rigorous research on the effectiveness of diverse teaching methodologies, digital tools, and classroom practices in various educational settings. This will ensure that the NCTM remains a leader in advancing evidence-based practices, enabling educators to address the unique needs of diverse learners and fostering equity in mathematics education.

By staying deeply engaged with cutting-edge research, the NCTM can continue to advocate for innovative, impactful approaches to teaching mathematics that prepare all students for a rapidly changing world.
